What can I expect on my first visit?

During the first visit you should arrive 10 minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork. Your initial appointment consists of a history, physical exam, and a treatment. During the history, your therapist will gather information regarding your injury. The examination consists of testing the specific area and surrounding areas to find the root cause of your injury.

There will usually be a short treatment session on your first visit, which may include a variety of treatments such as:

  • Manual therapy
  • Electrotherapy
  • Traction
  • IMS
  • Education

Typically the first session will last 45-60 minutes, but may be shorter or longer depending on your injury.

What should I bring for my first visit?

You should bring any pertinent information such as:

  • A Doctor’s referral (if you have one)
  • Scan results (such as X-rays, MRI’s etc.)
  • Suitable attire for examination and exercise. If you forget your shorts and t-shirt/tank tops, don’t worry we have lots here.

Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?

A doctor’s referral is not required to see a physiotherapist in BC. However, ICBC claims do require a doctor’s referral and in some cases for insurance coverage you need a doctors referral to be reimbursed for physiotherapy services. Check your insurance coverage for details.
